Your Body Is Your Best Personal Assistant
I think that we have been taught that there is a separation between your body, spirit and mind. We have to stop treating our body as our enemy. We have to bring it together, and replace the thought that this body is in direct opposition with what we want or need to achieve, to the thought that our body has become our best personal assistant. Let's imagine that you have hired someone who is an absolute awesome personal assistant. That is someone that you can count on, that you have employed for a very long time, that keeps you informed and organizes your calendar to always keep you on track. Okay. Check. When you are working with your assistant and you ask him or her to do something, you know that your assistant is someone that you trust completely to get the assigned job or task done. You are not going to hover over him or her and keep saying, "Did you do it? Did you get this done, and did you remember this?" No. That would be wasteful for both of you. You go about your day, and expect results. In a short time period, your assistant comes and simply says "Done." or updates you on the progress. Unless your assistant is having an off day, you know the new assignment will get done, as you wanted it. Because you have seen your assistant, handle everything else in the past with ease and finesse. Now let's take that same thought or feeling that we just created about this awesome assistant and put that same imagination for your body. This is how we can think about our body. It's a different and helpful way of thinking. So let's set this up. We have an awesome personal assistant, but now our body. We are about to assign a new task or job. We are going to expect, that the assigned task will get done. For an example, the assignment is; "I want to get more fit. I want to get stronger in my legs." With a personal assistant, would you agree that you would leave it open ended, that your assistant proceeds, as he or she thinks, as to what would be the best way, to get started. If the assignment is one that has not been assigned yet, would you also agree that you would be open to questions, or suggestions, if your assistant came back to you and said I'm running into a snag. Probably your answer will be "Yes." And the two of you can brainstorm for a moment. Why when it's our personal assistant that action is perfectly okay. But when it's our body, why do we complain, protest, and accuse the body of being against us. It's better to say, "What do you need to accomplish the task? Thank you so much for helping me completes this." As we work with our best personal assistant we can now assign more challenging and complex assignment to solve. Here our body is our best personal assistant. What about the task of healing. Why not say to the body, please heal my lungs, brain and heart while you're at it. Hey thanks so much for your talent, energy, and diligence in getting this done. Even though you may not know how to heal, or work with healing energy, that doesn't mean that your body can not heal itself. You may have to ask, your assistant (your body) who or what it needs, to accomplish the new assignment. If we expect it to get done, why not believe that the body, mind spirit will accomplish it. You will shortly be amazed at what the body is doing on your behalf. The changes happen because; first you have changed your attitude and thought towards your body. You believe in, respect and appreciate your body, and you are not being mean to yourself. Do not say mean things to yourself, or force it beyond its current capability. Also you need to listen, if your body keeps telling you that it needs something, stop and listen, but give the body what it needs to complete the job. You can't just nod your head. If you are asking your body, to make your form leaner, you also need to follow those body cravings, for that salad, green vegetables, or a glass of water. Otherwise, it will not be able to accomplish anything. You need to cooperate in order for the body to do the job. Also this is super important to understand. Let's say that your personal assistant is really not well at all, and really needs support to continue to work for you. If this was your best personal assistant and not just your body, wouldn't you do whatever it took to get your assistant back on track to be able to do his or her job for you? You would give your assistant whatever time off was needed, you would reorganize the furniture in your office if you had to accommodate a wheelchair, or build a ramp. If your assistant was aging, you would reassign those heavy lifting tasks to someone else, so that your assistant could do lighter things and could continue to manage your schedule and keep you highly functioning. You would have to have the same courtesy, for your body as you would for that "best personal assistant." Stop bad mouthing yourself, your body, and stop highlighting your short comings. Treat your body, as if your best personal assistant is doing an awesome job. When the body is more frail, support and encourages it. Don't overburden it by lifting something that is too heavy, and will cause pain and havoc. Don't make if feel guilty, or not good enough.
